If The Dress Fits

The dress fits now, but will it still fit for the wedding? A few simple precautions, like having a good seamstress and a program like weight watchers or simply going for walks can go a long way towards protecting your big day.

Wedding planning can be a blast. It can also be stressful. All that stress can have side effects. Don't lose sleep over what could happen and instead take steps to circumvent any possible issues.

Dress Alterations

After you have picked out your dress, it will probably need initial alterations. Find out if your seamstress will do last minute alterations and plan on trying on your dress the week before the wedding. This way if changes need to be made, your seamstress will have time to make them.

For a list of seamstresses and companies who can alter your dress professionally see the Dress Alterations section of our directory.

Weight Management

I have often heard of women who size their dress too small as motivation to lose weight. I think the stress this causes will stack on emotional weight instead, causing a hazard zone that emanates from you...

A dress that fits properly is going to look better than one that is too big or too small. That is why a good seamstress is the way to go.

If losing weight is your goal, try a program with a proven track record like weight watchers. I recommend this even if you are aiming to maintain as it causes you to be conscientious about what you eat. This alone will help reduce the urge to eat comfort foods that may not be very beneficial to your waist line.

Make it a Group Effort

You have a wedding party for a reason. Use them. They are your best friends and family and have agreed to take part in your wedding. This means that if you need a buddy to help get up in the morning for daily walks they are the ones to call.

...of course, you could also drag your fiance out with you. Perhaps he could shed a pound or two. Just don't force the issue or make them feel guilty.

If it is warm enough, find one of the many bike trails that Eugene has to offer. Alton Baker Park is a great starting point becuase you can walk down one path cross one of the many pedestrian bridges and then make your way back. Of course if it is too cold for that Valley River Center is always open in the morning to walkers.

If walking isn't your cup of tea there are always the fitness clubs. OZ Fitness, The Down Town Athletic Club(the DAC), and the University of Oregon all offer fitness club membership. I believe there is also a Curves somewhere nearby and plenty of smaller gyms too.

Basically the idea is to stay fit and keep motivated. Use your bridesmaids to keep you company and it will be hard to go wrong. In fact you might just have some fun too.
